To begin grab an old screw driver and rake out the cracks, one good stroke should do it. Then clean away the dust and loose chippings that remain.
Now when mixing the pollyfilla always mix the powder into a small tray of water it will be easier to mix and stir to the right consistency.
Now for the hard part when filling any cracks you should use a filling knife this as it may sound is not an knife but a flexible scraper.
The main key to filling any sort of crack be it large or small is to fill it proud and leave to dry so that it can be sanded.
